great trekking poles
I never used poles before but have started during my training for a long backpacking trip. These are really great. I like adjusting them based on up/down hills.

Now a believer in poles
As an avid hiker I was skeptical of trekking poles when I first started seeing people using them. But after favorable reports from friends coupled withe the onset of plantar fasciitis, I decided to buy a pair. Heard good things about Black Diamond and decided on the Trail Ergo. Nearly as lightweight as the full carbon but better bang for the buck. Great on ascents, descents, rocky terrain. The added stability on the trail is amazing and the poles seem to swing themselves. The clamps are very effective although there was a slight learning curve in easily flicking open the clamp. The only negative thing to say is when delivered it was very difficult to extract the inner pole out of the larger pole. It was wedged in. I didn't want to damage the pole by using pliers and finally got it out by spraying with some dry lube. That aside, these are very capable poles. Great price and shipping from Rocky Mountain.
