Patagonia Men's R2 Vest

As every mountain minimalist knows, little can match the weight-to-redemption value of high-loft core warmth. And now it's even better, because our newly refined R2® is warmer, with improved stretch and a softer hand while being significantly more compressible, breathable and lighter. The short-sheared but high-loft polyester face has a smoother appearance and insulates especially well underneath a shell; its directional knit wicks superbly, speeding dry times. Super-breathable and warm stretch panels (Polartec® Power Stretch®) along the sides allow for a closer, more mobile fit. With a softly lined inner collar and chin flap for skin comfort, offset shoulder yokes to stay clear of pack straps, and zippered handwarmer pockets. Recyclable through the Common Threads Recycling Program., Exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio, compressible and breathable, with improved stretch, Directional knit wicks moisture and speeds dry time, Collar and chin flap lined with Polartec® Power Stretch® fabric (made with recycled polyester) for next-to-skin comfort, Shoulder yoke offset for comfort with pack straps, Polartec® Power Stretch® fabric panels under the arms allow for a close fit, improved motion and increased durability in high-wear areas, Pockets: two zippered handwarmers, Body: 6.1-oz Polartec® Thermal Pro® 98% polyester (63% recycled)/2% spandex. Side panels: 6.6-oz Polartec Power Stretch® 88% polyester (60% recycled)/12% spandex. Recyclable through the Common Threads Recycling Program, 243 g (8.6 oz), Slim fit

Technology

POLARTEC® : THERMAL FABRICS

The primary insulation layer among experienced outdoor enthusiasts for nearly two decades, Polartec® fabrics are available in a variety of unique textures and weights designed specifically to enhance performance in a variety of environs.

Polartec® Thermal Pro®
The 100% polyester velour, pebbled, or shearling surfaces create air pockets that trap air and retain body heat, providing outstanding warmth without weight. These fabrics offer excellent breathability and dry quickly. Many styles are also available with a water repellent finish that sheds rain and snow.

Polartec® Thermal Pro® fabrics are available in a wide range of weights and styles, to provide the right level of insulation and most unique-looking fabrics for most outdoor activities. These fabrics represent the state of the art in insulation fabrics and include surface textures like herringbone, tweed, nailhead, cobble cloth, ripstop, corduroy, cable knit, rib sweater knits and even honeycomb patterns.

Benefits

Distinctive surface textures
Warmth without weight
Highly breathable
Dries quickly
Machine washable
Versatile use

Polartec® Power Stretch®
Moisture and high relative humidity next to the skin cause discomfort. Polartec® Power Stretch® keeps the skin dry through three complementary mechanisms:
      1)  The fabric is highly breathable and does not restrict the movement of moisture vapor.
      2)  "Touch points" on the fabric inner surface draw moisture. Sweat is wicked off the skin to the outside of the fabric where it spreads rapidly for evaporation.
      3)  When the sweat reaches the outside of the fabric, it spreads out to many times its original surface area, enabling it to dry at least 2 times faster than cotton.

Benefits

4-way stretch
Keeps your skin dry when you sweat
Highly breathable
Wind and abrasion resistant
Comfortable next-to-skin
Machine washable

Recycled Polyester:

To Patagonia, quality means more than how a garment looks or functions: It also includes the way it affects the environment and quality of life. This means working to source materials and develop processes that minimize damage to the environment.

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health. Over the course of 13 years, we saved some 86 million soda bottles from the trash heap. That’s enough oil to fill the 40-gallon gas tank of the diminutive Chevy Suburban 20,000 times.

Today, we're able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene baselayers, shell jackets and board shorts, as well as fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable second quality fabrics and worn out garments into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes. We've also started the world's first garment recycling program – bring us your old, worn-out Capilene baselayer, Patagonia fleece or Polartec® fleece (from any maker) and we'll make a new polyester garment from it using an innovative process developed by our friends at TEJIN.

Benefits of recycled polyester:

Lessens dependence on oil
Curbs discards, thereby prolonging landfill life and reducing toxic emissions from incinerators
Helps to promote a new recycling stream for polyester clothing that is no longer wearable
Creates less air, water and soil contamination
