Patagonia Rio Gallegos Waders - Long

We set out to design the finest waders on the planet and succeeded. These versatile, durable waders feature our exclusive new suspension system, new wool-lined neoprene booties and exterior seam reinforcements at critical wear points; features a 50-denier twill-woven polyester microfiber shell with a proprietary, waterproof/breathable H2No® Hydrostorm barrier and Deluge® DWR (durable water repellent) finish. Relaxed fit The Rio Gallegos Waders are the toughest, most puncture-resistant waterproof/breathable wader on the planet. They combine the finest level of durability while offering a new level of comfort and convenience. In other words, the ultimate wader. We started by strategically placing varying weights of our proprietary waterproof/breathable polyester microfiber fabric package with H2No® Hydrostorm barrier according to specific breathability or toughness needs. The result? Max durability and flexibility without resorting to excessive, heavy, sweat-trapping layers. Patagonia's revolutionary, re-engineered merino wool grid-lined neoprene booties wick perspiration and create guilt-inducing levels of foot comfort. The 3mm neoprene maintains the warmth of 5 mm neoprene but with better breathability. Patagonia's new and innovative internal suspension system allows easy conversion to waist height and - this is critical - quick relief without having to remove your jacket or fight sticky zippers. Upper exterior glued-in, water-repellent zip at chest provides ample storage for quick access to tippets, nippers and lip balm. An interior, clear-welded TPU pocket provides waterproof security to cell phone, camera and keys. More features: sculpted upper for reduced drag in heavy currents, anatomically curved knees (patent pending) , built-in fabric gravel guards with abrasion-resistant scuff zones and high-filtration mesh drain strip, a quick-release Duraflex® Stealth-V buckle for an adjustable fit and, to avoid line catch, concealed, stainless steel, locking boot hooks. Exterior reinforcement tape on interior leg and crotch provides unsurpassed abrasion resistance where it's needed most. Field repair kit included. Polyester microfiber shell, with a proprietary waterproof/breathable H2No® Hydrostorm barrier and Deluge® DWR (durable water repellent) finish, is highly durable and puncture resistant without excessive multiple layers or added weight; exterior seam reinforcements on inseam of legs for superior abrasion resistance Waist-mounted suspender allows easy conversion from chest to waist height, and provides quick relief without having to remove jacket or fight hard-to-operate zippers; TPU slide and lock design on front and back of suspenders offers security when wading deep and for roll-down, waist-high comfort; full elastic back Inside welded TPU waterproof pocket provides waterproof protection to camera, cell phone, etc; chest pocket with water-resistant zipper allows quick access to tippet spools, nippers and floatant Stretch Wading Belt with a quick-release DuraFlex® Stealth-V buckle provides smooth function and an easy-to-adjust fit Anatomically curved knees; patent pending; field repair kit included Built-in, heavyweight reinforcement fabric gravel guards with abrasion resistance scuff zones and high filtration drain strip; 1¼" gripper elastic gravel guard cuffs; concealed stainless steel, locking boot hooks secure cuff to boot and avoid line catch Custom fit for right and left booties with abrasion-resistant soles; 3mm neoprene booties are lined with our patent pending merino wool grid, which provides the same warmth and better breathability than 5mm neoprene Upper: 3-layer, 5.2-oz 50-denier twill-woven polyester microfiber shell with a proprietary waterproof/breathable H2No® Hydrostorm barrier and Deluge® DWR (durable water repellent) finish. Lower torso, seat and legs: 3-layer, 8.2-oz polyester double weave microfiber reinforcement fabric with proprietary H2No® Hydrostorm barrier and Deluge® DWR finish. Gravel guards: 6.4-oz polyester microfiber double weave with Deluge® DWR finish. Abrasion-resistant exterior tape on inseams and gravel guard and a high-filtration polyester mesh (100% recycled) drainage strip. Booties: Patent-pending merino wool grid-lined 3-mm neoprene with abrasion-resistant fabric soles 1228 g (43.3 oz)

Technology

Merino Wool:

Exceptionally soft, naturally breathable and warm even when wet, merino regulates body temperature, has a great warmth-to-weight ratio, naturally controls odor and stretches as you move. Patagonia merino wool comes from nonmulesed, Australian merino sheep. We slow wash it for softness and shrink-resistance without the use of environmentally harmful chlorine, then blend it with all-recycled polyester for durability, wicking and faster dry times, unmatched by 100% merino clothing.

Over the years, we’ve experimented with a variety of merino fabrications, most recently using 100% merino wool in our Baselayer line. Despite a high level of comfort in the finished garments, their durability did not meet our quality standards. This forced us to ask if we were living up to our mission to build the highest quality products and do no unnecessary harm (building products that can’t take a beating requires continued production of new products, instead of fewer products better made). By blending recycled polyester into our finished merino garments, we were able to dramatically increase durability.

There are other benefits. Our wool/poly blend boosts the natural wicking ability of merino wool (meaning less clammy feeling, since your garments stay dry next to skin) and reduces overall dry times. The resulting garment provides higher performance in the field, is less fussy to care for and remains exceptionally soft against the skin, naturally odor resistant and machine washable. bluesign® certification ensures the use of the best available technology in reducing water and energy use and minimizing pollution from dyes and finishes.

Recycled Polyester:

To Patagonia, quality means more than how a garment looks or functions: It also includes the way it affects the environment and quality of life. This means working to source materials and develop processes that minimize damage to the environment.

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health. Over the course of 13 years, we saved some 86 million soda bottles from the trash heap. That’s enough oil to fill the 40-gallon gas tank of the diminutive Chevy Suburban 20,000 times.

Today, we're able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene baselayers, shell jackets and board shorts, as well as fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable second quality fabrics and worn out garments into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes. We've also started the world's first garment recycling program – bring us your old, worn-out Capilene baselayer, Patagonia fleece or Polartec® fleece (from any maker) and we'll make a new polyester garment from it using an innovative process developed by our friends at TEJIN.

Benefits of recycled polyester:

Lessens dependence on oil
Curbs discards, thereby prolonging landfill life and reducing toxic emissions from incinerators
Helps to promote a new recycling stream for polyester clothing that is no longer wearable
Creates less air, water and soil contamination
