There's a reason most seasoned flats anglers wear long pants: protection, from coral, bugs and, most importantly, the searing rays of tropical sun. But that doesn't mean you have to suffer the heat either. Our Tropical Flats Pants are the lightest, most comfortable hot-weather pants we've ever made. A cool, airy 3-oz nylon/spandex blend dries quickly, floats over the skin, and provides 30-UPF sun protection. For even greater ventilation, the unique pocket snap system holds the pocket bag open to catch cooling breezes. Mesh drainage ensures you won't carry half the ocean in your pockets when you get out of the water. Ideal for all warm-weather fishing, hiking or camping. The pants also fold or roll up remarkably small, making them easy to pack for travel. Inseam (size M) is 32".

Lacking fur, feathers or scales, we humans have to think up clever ways to protect ourselves from the sun. Products with the UPF designation provide built-in sun protection that won’t wear off. To achieve sun protection, we take a varied approach, depending on the degree desired and the fabric used. Elements of the strategy can range from yarn selection to fabric construction to the use of special finishes (especially for light colors). Patagonia products with rated UPF protection are tested independently to meet Australia/New Zealand or AATCC protocols.
