Born from the experience, prAna has been guided and inspired by nature. Creating some of the most stylish and functional yoga, climbing, and active wear clothing was never enough; the founders of prAna were grateful and wanted to give back.
In 1995, prAna created the Natural Power Initiative with the goal of raising awareness about the benefits of renewable energy. In 2006, the company reached a major milestone – they offset 100% of the energy consumption for 250 retail locations across the United States, its corporate offices and all of the homes of its full-time employees. Since then, prAna has added 150 retailers to its program by supporting clean energy projects and wind farms in three of the largest carbon-emitting nations: China, India, and the USA.
This year prAna’s Natural Power Initiative is expected to prevent the emission of nearly 17,000 tons of greenhouse gases. That is like removing more than 3,500 cars from the road. The goal of using the company as a vehicle to promote positive change in the world is also evident in the ongoing search to fold sustainable materials and practices into the collection. As a member of the Organic Trade Association, prAna is continually increasing their use of organic cotton and sourcing other natural fibers and innovative recycled/upcycled materials. Reducing impact on soils, water supplies, and other natural resources goes hand in hand with creating fantastic garments that can be well worn and more importantly well lived in.
